| Thanksgiving Baskets was the first
community service project undertaken by the Boyden Kiwanis Club,
along with the club's annual Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast held the
Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving Day.
Boyden Kiwanians thought it would be a
nice gesture to present the elderly, the widowed/widower, and
shut-ins with Boyden connections to present them with a fruit
platter as a reminder that someone still cares for them.
Those who receive the fruit platter
around Thanksgiving express their deepest appreciation for being
remembered.
From this project, a meals-on-wheels
community-wide program was started in conjunction with the First
Reformed Church, St. John's Lutheran Church and the United
Presbyterian Church. The meals-on-wheel program is no longer in
existence, but the Thanksgiving fruit platter shows that other good
things can come from an idea. |
